Andrew CL Ong Appointed to Lex Mundi Board of Directors

Andrew CL Ong, a Co-Head of the Firm's Integrated Regulatory Practice, was elected to the Lex Mundi Board of Directors during the 2013 Lex Mundi Leadership Summit and Annual Meeting held in Amsterdam on 9-11 May 2013. Lex Mundi is the world's leading network of independent law firms with 160 member firms and more than 21,000 lawyers worldwide. Rajah & Tann is the Lex Mundi member firm for Singapore. Andrew, along with three other newly-elected directors of Lex Mundi, will serve in the 16-strong board for a four-year term.

Hamidul Haq Appointed as Member of Working Group on Demand of the 4th Committee of Supply of Lawyers

Hamidul Haq, the Head of the Firm's White-Collar Crime Practice and a partner from the Commercial Litigation Practice, was appointed as a member of the Working Group on Demand of the 4th Committee on the Supply of Lawyers ("4th Committee"). The 4th Committee, chaired by Justice V K Rajah, was convened by the Ministry of Law to review the supply of Singapore legal professionals to meet the legal and business needs of Singapore.

The 4th Committee submitted its report to the Government on 22 May 2013 with several recommendations. These included increasing the annual LLB student intake of the Singapore Management University, establishing a third law school, reviewing the list of Overseas Scheduled Universities ("OSUs") and recognising double-degree programmes offered by OSUs subject to their meeting specific criteria.

The members of the Working Group on Demand and those appointed in the other three Working Groups (i.e. Local Supply, Foreign Supply and Attrition) of the 4th Committee comprised legal luminaries, practitioners, academicians and corporate general counsel.

Paul Tan Appointed as Representative for Asia-Pacific & Australasian Regions of Young International Arbitration Group

Paul Tan from the International Arbitration Practice has been appointed a Representative for the Asia-Pacific and Australasian regions of the Young International Arbitration Group ("YIAG").

The YIAG is a London Court of International Arbitration ("LCIA")-sponsored association for practitioners, students and members of the arbitration community under 40 years of age. It aims to promote the understanding and use of international arbitration law and practice amongst its members. It currently has over 5000 members from more than 142 countries.

Paul was also featured in the Global Arbitration Review ("GAR"), which noted his "wide knowledge and experience of international commercial and investment arbitration", his "powerful intellect and extraordinary analytical discipline" and tipped him as a "key player in the fast growing arbitration scene in Singapore". The GAR is a leading resource on international arbitration news and community intelligence.
