New Minimum Wage Regulation

On 9 February 2015, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare issued a new minimum wage regulation No. 808/MOL, which increases the minimum wage from LAK626,000 to LAK900,000 per month for workers who work in normal environment, and an increase to LAK1,035,000 (US$1 = LAK8,000) for workers who work in hazardous environment. Examples of workers in the latter category are those who are in direct contact with chemicals, gases and underground in the course of their employment. The new regulation will come into effect on 1 April 2015 and applies to all labor units.
